Bishop Sentamu used his drum to emphasise his message to the lower school assembly at Arden on Friday morning. He said that we have 2 ears, 2 eyes, just one mouth - but sometimes it is hard to stop the `yakking' - even inside our own heads. He was stressing how important it is to quieten down the inner voice and really listen.
Pictured with Bishop Sentamu and holding his drum is head boy Richard Davenport.

The Bishop was given a brief tour of the school by the head girl and deputy head boy. Here he is listening to music composed by Year 11 students for their GCSE music exam.

Memories from children in Year Two (aged 6 - 7)
On Friday 28th February Bishop Sentamu came into the Infants Collective Worship. He told us a funny story about two monkeys and explained that God would pull us out of tricky situations if we have faith in him. The Bishop
also told us about how he played the drums as a child in Africa. He said we each have rhythm inside of us. He was a very nice man.

Oliver Robinson Year Four (aged 9) writes:There was high anticipation in the school hall when, in elaborate purple robes, Bishop Sentamu came in. The Vicar was carrying a strange sort of instrument like a large drum. During the first hymn, the Bishop unexpectedly started to play this instrument to the music. When the singing had ceased, Bishop Sentamu told us that the drum was called a Jembay or a Conga (if played by three people.) Next the Bishop stood at the front of the hall. Then he picked four volunteers from the vast array of students watching him. He asked them to face each other and move forwards. Then he asked them to face away from each other and move forwards; and they were all going in different directions. He said if we work together we will all be happy.
