Prayer Diary

WED 19  Pray today for Roger Vann as he leads a conference near Barcelona for 20 European colleagues planning to make effective use of the internet for evangelism. Please pray for unity and understanding of the necessary technology.
THURS 20 Mothers Union Advent Lunch. Give thanks for those who prepare the food today and for those who come and enjoy the fellowship this brings.
FRI 21. We pray today for the Leprosy Mission. Give thanks that the eye ward at TLM Philadephia Leprosy Hospital, Salur, India is nearing completion and pray for a Community Health project which has just started with the help of visiting doctors from the placecountry-regionUK. We have been asked by to pray for all the  medical training that is going on in their area.
SAT 22. Diocesan Synod meets today. Please pray that items on the agenda are discussed and implemented for the benefit of all congregations. Stepping Stones children have settled well into the new term. Please pray that the staff will cope with the changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Soon there will be introductory visits for new children. Pray also that these will all be of a welcoming and meaningful nature
SUN 23. Songs of Praise (Knowle style) at 11.15 a.m. service. Pray that Friendship Club Members attend in good  numbers and that the songs chosen may bring the Gospel to life. Homegroup leaders meet in today. Pray that they are encouraged and enriched in their positions as an extension of the life of the Church.
MON 24  Today local youth workers get together in placeSolihull. Give thanks for their enthusiasm and pray that they may learn more about how to interact with young people. Matt Baggott speaks at the Greswolde Evening entitled “Faith. Personal Practice or Public policy?” Pray that the power of the gospel comes across clearly.
TUES 25. Local Clergy meeting today for their Chapter Meeting. Give thanks that we are blessed with so many good leaders and pray that this may be a time of fellowship and forward thinking. There is a Pastoral Care Team Committee meeting  in the Guild House. Please pray for a sensitivity as they discuss the needs of people with many different problems.
WED 26. Parochial Church Council. Pray for the PCC as they meet tonight to consider the budget for our Church activity in 2009. Ask for the bravery to step out in faith and the prudence to be cautious where necessary.  Michael Parker takes the Junior School assembly today and Infant Assembly tomorrow. Pray that the children will respond well to what he has to say about St. Andrew.  Pray for the residents of Jobs Close as they receive communion today.
THURS 27  Pray for Health & Safety Team who seek to balance the legislative and insurance requirements of the secular world with the requirements of our Church. Give thanks for the many volunteers who work quietly and efficiently to keep things running smoothly. Deanery Synod meets today with new Suffragon Bishop, Andrew Watson. Please pray that he will fit quickly into his new role and that today's meeting will be one of harmony and progress. Sheri Gidney and and Becky Davies are meeting with the Collective Worship Team at Knowle Primary school to plan next term's assemblies. Pray that good ideas will come out of the meeting.
FRI 28. Judith Adam goes on a residential training weekend as part of her Lay Readers' course. Thank the Lord that Judith has responded to the challenge of this ministry and pray that she is able to learn more about it this weekend.
SAT 29  We pray for Rod and Margi Powell, now establishing their ministry in Israel.  We thank the Lord for the progress to date and ask the He will continue to lead them to the right people.

SUN 30.  Advent Sunday. At the 11.15 Service there is the dedication of a new St. John's Chapel altar cloth made by the ladies of the Solihull Association of NADFAS. This is in memory of Gordon Hicklin. We give thanks for this beautiful piece of work and also for the life of Gordon who was so much a part of the community of this Church. Please pray that Gordon's wife, Barbara, will find comfort and peace through this work of art. Tonight there is a Churches Together service at St. George & St. Theresa. Pray that this will be well attended and meaningful at the beginning of Advent

Prepare the way for the Lord - Isaiah 40:3
MON 1. During this Season of Advent may we find it a time of reflection and thanksgiving. Pray that we will set apart time to be with our Creator God and be joyful as we meditate on how carefully God has prepared Christmas for us. Thank God for our community as the Christmas lights are switched on and pray that we would continue to show hospitality and concern to those in our neighbourhood.
TUES 2.  The Alpha course finishes tonight. Give thanks for all those who have taken part and in particular for the work of Roy Carr. Please pray for those who have attended - that they may grow in faith and move forward with God. The Anglican Youth workers meet today with the Bishop of Birmingham - pray that they will be encouraged in their much needed work.
WED 3. The residents of Berrow Cottage Homes are having their Christmas Lunch today in Kenilworth. Pray for a joyful time and safety in travel.  Please give thanks for the new communal room/office at the Homes and pray that it will be a place of happiness and friendship for all concerned. Powerline meets tonight. Pray for a strong feeling of fellowship as we gather together to pray for our Church.
THURS 4. Tonight is the KP Nuts Christmas Party and Monday 8th is the Manna Christmas Party.  Please pray for a happy time for leaders, helpers and young people. Please pray for wisdom and energy for Hannah Brown our Music Minister and for musicians and choir as they rehearse for many services during December. Also pray that all the administrative work connected with these events goes smoothly and that the choir and musicians will be well rehearsed and confident in sharing the message of Jesus through the voice of music.
FRI 5. Stepping Stones are preparing for their Nativity Play. Please pray for patience for the leaders as they help the children fit into costumes and learn lines!  Their hope and prayer is that the children and parents will be touched by the story of Christmas
SAT 6.  Please pray for the Men's Breakfast and ask for a really relaxed atmosphere and good response to the speaker. There is an Explosion Drama Day today. Pray that a good number of young people attend and those running the day will have energy and good ideas in order to encourage these young people in their Christian faith.
SUN 7.  Re-Action takes place tonight. Please pray that it will be an outward looking service and that those taking part will be full of confidence in what they are doing.
MON 8. Pray today for the future of Scouting in Knowle which will have been going for 100 years in 2009. Funds are urgently needed for building work to the new scout hut.  Give thanks for all those who have given their time to young people over the years and ask that funds will become available to enable these groups to continue to meet in Knowle.
TUES 9. Henry Jerwood is helping at Holy Cross Church, Billesley Common. Give thanks for the work he is doing there and pray that those from their local community, who come to church infrequently but will attend services at Christmas, may be welcomed and encouraged to come back in the New Year.
WED 10. Lynda Love is taking the Junior School Assembly today and the Infant School Assembly tomorrow. Please pray for Lynda as she tries to impart the Christian message is a way that will be exciting and interesting to the children. New leaders have started helping in Wednesday and Sunday Gener8 groups. Pray that they would get to know the children well and soon feel part of the team.
THURS 11. Give thanks and pray for the Flower Guild, and especially for their leader Gill Ashton, as they decorate the Church for Christmas. Pray that they may be inspired in their art and that the congregation will be moved by the way they depict the Glory of the Lord.
FRI 12. Thank the Lord for the successful beginning of the “Bumps and Babies” café in the Guildhouse. Pray that the new families coming to the café will be drawn to one of the Christmas services.
SAT 13. The Riding Lights Theatre Company performs today at Dorridge Methodist Church. Carol Kay has taken on the role as “Churches Together” secretary. Please pray for her in the organisation of joint services and pray also that we would find ways to co-operate in the shared mission we have.
SUN 14. Pray today for Clergy and staff as preparations are made for Christmas services. Ask the Lord for stamina as so many people come through the Church doors. Many practical tasks have to be undertaken in the background as well which are demanding in their own way. Please pray that everything runs smoothly over the Christmas period and give thanks for all who give so freely of their time. Baptisms take place this afternoon. Give thanks for the gift of children and pray that today may be an opening for those parents who would not normally come to services in our Church.
MON 15. Please pray as preparations are made for the Infant and Junior Carol Services taking place this week. May these services be a special and joyful time for children, teachers and parents.
TUES 16. Give thanks for the work that the Community Payback Team, through the Probation Service, have done in helping to tidy the Churchyard. Pray that both supervisors and offenders will know God's forgiveness and love in their lives and that, as the team continue to help next year, God's presence becomes real to them.
WED 17. Today is the start of three days of Christmas assemblies with Arden School. Please pray for safety as so many young people negotiate busy roads and also that the services will bring the holy side of Christmas to the forefront of their minds.
THURS 18. The Leprosy Mission has asked for prayer for training of medical and nursing students. Please pray that these students will learn quickly and thoroughly in order that they can take over much needed roles.
FRI 19.   Pray for Pall Singh and his wife Joy, our new CMS Link Mission Partners. Since coming to Knowle Church in November we feel we now know them more personally and understand more of the work that they are doing in Birmingham. Thank the Lord for their special gifts in reaching out to people struggling in all walks of life and ask for wisdom, strength and safety in travel as they help and encourage.
SAT 20. Pray today and give thanks for the Bellringers as they prepare to ring in Christmas Day. Every week bells ring out over our village as a reminder of Church services. May the bells bid more people to come to our Church in order that they may experience the love of the Lord.
SUN 21.   Today are two Church Carol Services with Bishop David returning to Knowle to take part. Please thank God for his gifts of communication and leadership and pray that both services will glorify God in a way that is meaningful to all who attend. Give thanks for musicians, readers, staff and clergy who have been busy preparing for these special services.
MON 22. Think today of David and Andrea Taylor and their young children in Malawi. They are a long way from friends and family and need prayer as they struggle to settle back into Malawi setting up their new ventures which aim to be a model for combining ministry and business. Please also pray for encouragement, hope and wisdom for them and the Lord's peace at Christmas.
TUES 23. The Springfield Project opened officially last month reaching out into the community near Moseley. Please pray as they seek more volunteers to help with various groups and also pray for a new Treasurer to come forward to take over a very demanding role as a large sum of money is needed by March to complete building work
WED 24. Today is the start of Christmas for many children and parents as they attend the Crib Services. Pray that it will be a happy time for all and that we also may re-look at the Christmas story with the innocence of a child.
THURS 25.  Experience the Christ in Christmas. Reflect on John 3.16. “For God so loved the World that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
FRI 26.  Give thanks today for the Lay Assistants and Sidesmen and for all that they do, especially over the Christmas period and pray that more people may volunteer to this much needed ministry.
SAT 27. Pray today for the Church Weekend away in January at Swanwick. Ask God to prompt those who have not already completed forms to do so and pray for The Rev'd Canon Paul Williams, Matt Levett and Sarah Covington as they make preparations to speak to us on this special occasion.
SUN 28.  Pray today for our village and all that it means to be part of a community. Give thanks for the friendliness of the shopkeepers, postmen, milkmen and other services and also pray that with the present economic climate they may continue to work happily in Knowle.
MON 29. Thank God for the many volunteers who help and lead in all the different children's groups.
TUES 30.  Pray today for three Baptist pastors in Romania.  Pastors Teofil, Filliasi and Daniel. Ask for encouragement in all that they do in that country as they approach 2009.
WED 31. Let us give thanks for all that the Lord has done for us in 2008. Please pray for those who have found it a difficult year and let us look forward in hope to 2009 asking that God will use us in our community or further afield in order that all may know Jesus as their personal saviour and friend.
